I am woefully a helicopter mom! I’ve tried to shake it and not be so hands-on and involved when it comes to my children, but I honestly cannot help myself. It started when they were just babies, and I would take them to library story time because I read that it was important for children to hear spoken and written words. Being exposed to different types of speech helped their brains develop faster and fostered a healthy appreciation for learning.

I think it worked. Some of my most memorable experiences with my children when they were younger were taking them to museums and going on treasured nature walks. Today, my kids are prolific writers, got top grades, graduated with honors, and went on to attend top schools with full-tuition academic scholarships.

It helped that I was the founder and curator of a top parenting blog called Bellyitch, which kept me on top of the latest tools and gifted me opportunities to try new ones. It hasn’t stopped!

Those were great, but today we have an even broader array of tools at our disposal to foster our children’s intellectual curiosity — especially in the realm of STEM education
