Jill Biden’s White House Invite to Iowa : On the Long History of Black Winners being asked to Share Honors
On the day after, the Lousiana State University women’s team defeated the Iowa University’s team, headed by powerhouse shooter Caitlin Clark, the First Lady was at an event on Monday at the Colorado State Capitol in Denver.
In her joy over all the excitement of a hard fought game, thrilling season and tournament, Dr. Biden got ahead of herself abit while congratulating both teams.
“I know we’ll have the champions come to the White House; we always do. So, we hope LSU will come,” the First lady said. “But, you know, I’m going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come too, because they played such a good game.”
Doh! What a major faux pas! Not only was it so because there is a long history of the sitting president to offer an inviation to visit to the WINNING team and the WINNING team only, but it also sparked a racial debate on Twitter and online for a few days!
A lot of supporters of tournament’s Most Outstanding Player winner, Angel Reese, a Baltimore native and initial University of Maryland recruit who transferred to LSU for a fresh start after a injury season ending first year, were already in fight mode.
